Oticon Hearing Aids

Among modern hearing aid manufacturers, Oticon is the oldest, with Dutch founder Hans Demant distributing hearing aids as electric Acousticon devices in 1904.

After forming a partnership with Charles Lehman, American-Danish Oticon Corporation became the leading provider of hearing aids after World War II.

Oticon became a global company in 1965, making the first ultra-discreet in-the-ear (ITE) hearing device in 1977 and its first digital device in 1996. Oticon’s 103rd year saw the introduction of the first devices with improved sound sensitivity as well as streaming and connectivity features.

The main focus of Oticon’s second century has been on Brain Hearing and the development of Life-Changing Technology for hearing aid users. Their “people first” approach has motivated the company’s technological innovations.

Oticon’s Hearing Technology Solutions

The Brain Hearing philosophy, developed by Oticon, focuses on supporting how the brain processes sound through providing it with the elements necessary to create meaning from sounds instead of blasting it with amplified sounds.

Using this approach led to the development of Oticon’s Opn solution in 2016. Opn enhanced the capacity of the device wearer to distinguish multiple speakers within a noisy environment, and it was the first hearing device to allow internet connectivity (ConnectClip) using the IFTTT (If This Then That) Network.

Digital technology has been a part of the hearing technology solutions provided by Oticon for twenty-five years, allowing them to develop a higher quality of sound and instrument performance. The manufacturer’s investment into micro-digital technology has also led to the capacity for smaller devices with higher performance capacity.

Another Life Changing innovation of Oticon is the company’s Tinnitus SoundSupport integrated into their hearing device using streaming capabilities. This application transmits white noise and other tinnitus masking sounds to bring auditory relief.
