Direct Streaming to Hearing Aids for Android 10

by | Mar 16, 2020 | Patient Resources, Technology, Troubleshooting

Are you tired of struggling to hear a phone conversation?  Many of our clients are.  That’s why, we’re excited about the new streaming feature of ReSound’s Smart 3D application for Android.  Apple devices have been able to stream music, audio, and calls directly from their phones to their hearing aids since 2013.  Now, Android users can too.  All that’s needed is a  compatible smartphone running Android 10 operating system.

Our patients wearing ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids can experience streaming features for themselves with a compatible smartphone running Android 10 operating system.  The features are available on devices such as Google’s Pixel 3 and 4  or Samsung’s Galaxy 9 and 10 smartphones.  Many of our clients find answering a phone call much less frustrating with the added streaming features.

Using  ASHA Bluetooth Low Energy technology, the app requires less power and is designed for audio transmission.  That means, your phone’s battery will last longer than phones with traditional Bluetooth technology that can drain your phone’s battery quickly.  You don’t have to worry about your phone dying in the middle of a call.

How to Check if Your Android Devices is Compatible for the New Direct Streaming Feature

Make sure you have the latest version of the app.

  1. Go to Google Play.
  2. Enter ReSound Smart 3D in the Search field.
  3. Download the app.
  4. Tap Get Started once the download is complete.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your hearing devices to your phone.

Depending on your Android device, you will see one of the following screens.

Screen 1 — Connection is Successful

If your screen looks like this, your Android device and hearing technology are compatible.  Your hearing aids should automatically pair to your Android device.

If the devices are not automatically paired, you should see Screen 2 or Screen 3.

Screen 2 — Settings Update Required

If red warning icons appear next to your “Status” and “My ReSound” at the bottom of your screen, your Android device has not paired with the app.  You should see a red warning icon next to “Direct Audio Streaming.”  Tap on the option and follow the instructions to pair the two devices.  If you do not see Screens 1 or 2, your Android device may not be compatible with the ReSound mobile app.

Screen 3 — Not Compatible

If you have two warning icons next to  “Direct Audio Streaming” and “My ReSound,”  the technology may not be compatible with your phone.  You will need to contact your carrier to see if your smartphone will be updated to the Android 10 operating system.  Most newer phones should support the new operating system; however, older phones with older technologies will not.  You may want to consider moving to a new phone that supports the new operating system and ReSound app.
