Overview of Cigna Insurance Plans
Cigna plans come with a variety of options, but the following are the most common. Even if you don’t see a plan that suits you, contact us, and we can find a variation that addresses your needs precisely.
HealthSpring Advantage (HMO)
Cigna’s Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan gives members the opportunity to select doctors, specialists, and medical facilities from its network of providers.
In addition to this, the HealthSpring Advantage network provides coverage of $700 per ear every three years, with a complimentary routine hearing exam annually. However, if you choose to use services outside of the HMO plan, coverage is limited.
HealthSpring Preferred (PPO)
The HealthSpring Preferred plan is an excellent alternative to their HMO option. This PPO plan provides the same $700 coverage per ear every three years, plus a free annual routine hearing exam.
Unlike HMO plans, which are quite restrictive when it comes to selecting doctors, specialists, and facilities, PPO plans offer more freedom of choice. However, it is important to note that you will incur out-of-network costs if you choose to go outside the network for care.
Exclusive Provider Network (EPOs)
Cigna offers Exclusive Provider Network (EPO) plans. This type of plan is a combination of both HMO and PPO plans, offering more flexibility than HMOs but still requiring out-of-pocket expenses if care is sought outside of the network.
Hearing aid coverage is included in Cigna’s EPO plans, although the amount of coverage and the availability of hearing care and hearing aids depend on the plan and the location.
Working With Medicare
NIDCD reports that about one-third of individuals between 65 and 74 in the US have some level of hearing loss, with this number increasing to half of those over the age of 75.
Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover hearing aids or hearing care, leaving many individuals who could benefit from hearing aids without the necessary funds to do so.
Cigna offers supplemental coverage for those with Medicare.
