North Houston’s Premier Clinic for Hearing Aid Repair Services

Are your hearing aids acting strange or did they stop working altogether? Maybe you’re thinking about tossing them in the junk drawer with all those other defective gadgets?

WAIT!

We understand your frustration with hearing aids that aren’t working right.

However, when your hearing aids perform the way they’re supposed to, the benefits far outweigh the frustration you’re going through—benefits like better communication, improved balance, enhanced cognitive function, and an overall increase in your quality of life.

Advanced-technology hearing aids are sophisticated technology and sometimes they require the right amount of TLC from a hearing instrument technician to keep them in top working order.

Is there a place in your area that provides local hearing aid repair services?

North Houston Hearing Solutions has you covered, providing troubleshooting, maintenance, and hearing aid repair for Spring, TX, and nearby communities.

Why Aren’t Your Hearing Aids Working?

Since we opened our doors about 25 years ago, most of the hearing aids brought in for repair were linked to one (or more) of three causes:

1. Earwax Buildup

When built-up earwax gets into the device, it causes delicate electronic components to malfunction.

Daily cleaning with a soft bristle brush and/or soft cloth and changing wax guards or wax filters according to manufacturer specification can help prevent this issue from becoming a problem.

2. Too Much Moisture

Moisture is the archenemy of any type of electronics. In addition to causing components to short out, it can contribute to a faulty connection due to corrosion, especially in the battery compartment.

Removing your hearing aids before showering or swimming or using a sauna, steam bath, or hot tub is critical.

Moisture occurs naturally in your ears, so your daily cleaning regimen should include overnight air drying or the use of a dehumidifier or hearing aid dryer, especially in our humid environment.

3. Broken Components and Loose Wires

Daily wear and accidents, like dropping or stepping on your hearing aids, can cause damage to components or the device housing. Exposure to UV radiation from being left on a window sill or the dashboard of your car can also cause serious damage.

Whenever you clean your hearing aids or change their batteries or wax guards, put a towel or cloth on the work surface or work over your bed so they have a soft place to land if you drop them. Store them in their hard case when not in use to prevent accidental damage.

Answering Your Questions About Hearing Aid Repair

Q. What types of hearing aids do you repair?

A. We repair all types of hearing aids, including Behind-The-Ear (BTE), Receiver-In-The-Ear (RITE), In-The-Ear (ITE), In-The-Canal (ITC), Completely-In-Canal (CIC), and Invisible-In-Canal (IIC) styles.

Q. Can I have my hearing aids repaired even if they were not purchased from your clinic?

A. Yes. We are happy to help you with troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair regardless of where you purchased your device, provided it is one that our technicians are trained to handle. We can also “adopt” you into our ongoing care family if you’re currently without a professional hearing care provider.

Q. How much do hearing aid repairs cost?

A. If your hearing aids are still under warranty, repair costs are covered by the manufacturer. If they are out of warranty, an in-office repair can cost as little as $75. Out-of-warranty devices with severe damage, requiring the devices to be sent to the manufacturer for repair, can cost between $300 and $500.

Q. How long does the hearing aid repair process take?

A. We do many simple repairs while you wait. When repairs take more time or we have to send your devices off to the manufacturer, we’ll send them using express delivery services so you can get them back in your ears ASAP.

Q. Is it better to repair or replace a damaged hearing aid?

A. There are three scenarios in which replacement is your better choice:

  1. The damage is so extensive that the repairs will cost more than or close to the cost of replacement
  2. Your hearing aids have been in the shop more than they’ve been in your ears (exaggerating, of course)
  3. They are out of warranty and approaching or beyond five years of service—in this scenario, replacing them will allow you to take advantage of new technology

Q. Can I repair my hearing aids at home, or should I seek professional help?

A. Please don’t try to repair them at home. Your hearing aids are finely tuned, delicate electronic instruments that need the TLC and technical expertise of a professional with the right tools and parts to make them perform as designed.

Q. Are your hearing aid repair services covered by insurance?

A. Hearing aid repairs and replacement are usually covered by the manufacturer. If out of warranty, some insurance providers might assist with repair costs or replacement.
