It’s frustrating when any technology isn’t working the way it should, but when your hearing aids aren’t performing right, it can be stressful to be disconnected from the world of sound you were once enjoying.

Your hearing aids are more than just your way to hear sounds clearer. They are an investment into improving your quality of life and overall well-being. If they’re not working as you need them to, it’s understandable to be stressed or discouraged.

By troubleshooting your hearing aids at home, you can address the issues you’re experiencing before bringing them to us for a repair appointment, where we can take a look at what’s going on and see how we can help.

Clean Your Hearing Aids

Hearing aids, like all technology, sometimes need a good cleaning to confirm they’re in top working order.

If built-up earwax gets into the hearing aid, it can lead to performance issues, malfunctions, and ear irritations.

Give your hearing aids a daily wipe down with a microfiber cloth or a soft bristle brush to remove excess moisture and earwax to help boost performance and ensure your devices are working as needed.

A Factory Reset

Have you tried turning it off and on again? While that’s the typical tech team joke, it’s a valid fix for many issues to do with not connecting to smart devices or no sound output.

Turn off your hearing aids by placing them in the charging port, if applicable, and let them sit for a minute to reset. Then, remove them and give them another try. Sometimes, disconnecting your devices and reconnecting them can also help!

Changing the Ear Domes and Wax Guards

For certain models, ear domes are needed to situate the hearing aid in your ear. In some cases, your dome may not fit your ears as you need, which can lead to leaking sound and feedback, as well as earaches and irritation.

Changing your ear domes for better fitting domes can improve your hearing aid performance. Changing the wax guard for a fresh one can also help address muffled sound concerns, as wax can build up in the wax guard and block sound from getting to your ears.
